Understanding and living with
obstructive hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy (oHCM)
What is (o)HCM?
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a condition where the walls of the heart muscle become thicker than usual, making it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively. For some people with HCM, this thickening causes a partial blockage of blood flow; this is called obstructive HCM, or oHCM. HCM is one of the most common inherited heart conditions, affecting around 1 in 500 people[1].
Being diagnosed can raise many questions. This website is here to help you understand the condition, recognise its impact, and find information to support you and your family, at your own pace.
Only a cardiologist can provide precise information about your health, but this website aims to inform you about the disease and its impact on your daily life to help you better understand and manage your condition. You will also find explanations about the genetic aspect and what it means for families, as well as experiences shared by other patients.
